TECHNICAL INFORMATION:

A DNA maternity test involves collecting a buccal swab (mouth swab) from both the child and the alleged mother. This sample contains cells that contain genetic information in the form of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). Each person’s DNA is unique, like a fingerprint, and represents a genetic blueprint. In the laboratory, the DNA is extracted from the cells and specific regions are amplified using a process called PCR (polymerase chain reaction). This allows for careful examination of the DNA pattern. The child’s DNA pattern is then compared to that of the alleged mother. Because a child inherits their genetic information from their biological parents, analyzing their DNA will conclusively determine whether the alleged mother is their true biological mother. This test is accurate and reliable.
